This short memoir piece published in GRANTA broke stylistic and non-fiction boundaries with its linked vignette style. Telling the story of his father’s journey from the holocaust of the Indian partition. Six Snapshots has gone on to be used in film documentaries, taught on degree courses and be published many times around the world.

To mark the 70th anniversary of the Partition BBC Radio 3 commissioned John to write and record this essay reflecting on the cultural impact and reflections of that time and its reverberations into the modern day.
